Jordan the Editor
Editing is one of my strongest skills. It is also special passion of mine, especially when it comes to editing book manuscripts. It is because of this passion that I have worked a range of editorial positions during my time at college including traveling abroad to work as an Editorial Assistant for Ireland's FOOD&WINE Magazine. Since my graduation and time abroad, I have kicked off my career as a freelance editor. I have worked with clients to copyedit and develop manuscripts of various types and lengths, from a 400+ page memoir to blog articles and a graduate student's thesis abstract. I am currently on the look out for more projects!
The Awesome Mitten
"Jordan has been an invaluable member of Team Awesome since she graciously agreed to dive in during the midst of a hectic redevelopment strategy. We're so lucky she showed up when she did and that she's willing to learn and grow with us! She's provided great feedback on our processes and has proven infinitely flexible, willing to jump at a moment's notice while ensuring that we understand where we may be asking too much. This is a critical component of a remote work team player, and she nails it!
Jordan is a patient and thoughtful editor, willing to work through multiple revisions with her writers to get pieces to a more than perfect state. We often have to tell her not to over-exert herself because she's so thorough! We've loved having her keen eye and sharp tongue on staff - while she may be soft-spoken, her edits are direct, accurate, and always lead to incredible pieces for our publication." - Erin Bernhard, Managing Editor of The Awesome Mitten
For a year, I was an Associate Editor for The Awesome Mitten; a blog working to cultivate a fresh perspective on Michigan by engaging local communities, businesses, and people. I coordinated and managed the work of five freelance writers. I set deadlines, maintained communications, managed the WordPress blog site, and provided editorial feedback and consultation for each piece remotely.

Developmental Editing Practice
To keep my skills sharp, I strive to gain as much editorial experience as possibly. In this exercise, I was given a sample section of a romantic fiction manuscript. I then provided in-text developmental edits, a critical analysis memo to my would-be editor, and a memo to the author summarizing and further explaining my recommendations.
